Not sure if this is too far off-topic for the blog, but I wanted to share this latest model with you. It’s an HO scale repair shed from Pola of Western Germany, circa 1965, and I think it came out pretty nice. I even tried a little light weathering on it. A nostalgic kit from my childhood, redone!

Wow Rob, that's wonderful. I love trackside buildings. Fantastic paint job! Bill
ReplyDeleteThank you kindly. I've been building these HO structures on and off since I was about 12, and even though I haven't had a train layout for years, the buildings are still a fun build. I really slaved over the brickwork this time! SFZ
DeleteYes, a great paint job. That light weathering really sets it off.
ReplyDeleteBetter than the 'over the top' paintwork on the box top.
I was actually shooting to replicate the extreme weathering on the box photo, but I chickened out! SFZ
DeleteFab work Rob! Its stunning. Hope you had a glass of sherry or two making it over the holidays!
ReplyDeleteThank you Woodsy! Building these kits is a real link to my errant youth! SFZ
ReplyDeleteI like the tiles and the dirt on the roof. Superb work. Bill
ReplyDeleteThis brings back memories! I had built this for a planned shelf layout back in the '70s and ended up not building the layout or using the building. I sold it off sometime in the '90s.
ReplyDeleteYes, this is one of those iconic buildings that it seemed that everybody had back in the day, but I only managed to catch up with it about ten years ago on ebay, and decided the time to build it had come. I built so many of the German buildings back in the 1960s... SFZ
DeleteA beautiful model, and an excellent paint job. The dirty, cloudy windows really suit the building, and the background really helps to set the scene.
ReplyDeleteThanks! This was a fun one to build and paint, and for once I didn't rush things! SFZ
DeleteI think (sorry if I'm wrong Woodsy!) that Moonbase Central is all about 1960s childhood nostalgia. As such, model railways fits right in. We all walked past buildings like this in our real lives and seeing them reduced to toy size is perfect !
ReplyDeleteI'll be making my own 1940s style buildings, inspired by Airfix kits this year for my puppet film. Does this sort of thing fit into Moonbase's purview? I think so, but I defer to the Almighty Woodster!
I for one would love to see your 1940s buildings! SFZ
