I do love a good knockoff and a mega hit like Masters of the Universe spawned many a tacky He-Man. Here's a few I've seen this year.
Do you have any?
I bet kids loved them at Christmas!

Slender legs
[possibly a Galaxy rider]
Barbarella's angel!
I thought that was a Christmas tree in the bag! Its battlecat!
Don't look into his eyes!
Civil War? Dressed like that?
More like Arm and Hammer!
Ha Ha! Arm and Hammer!...
ReplyDeleteI was working on George Miller's version of Justice League and a couple of Americans strolled into our workshop. I assumed they were VFX crew, but the big blonde surfer dude came up and pumped my hand.
"Hi, I'm Armee Hammer. I'm Batman!"
-I'll bet he was just hanging out to use that quote!
Great story Looey, ha ha! Have we seen George Miller's Justice League?
DeleteNah, it was canned before Principle Photography started. It was the start of the winding down for me, the next film (with the same crew) was Alex Proyas' Paradise Lost and that suffered the same fate -cancelled during pre-production.
DeleteJustice League would ultimately be realeased as a completely different production, helmed by Zack Snyder.
...still, George Miller's Mad Max roots would have been on full display with Hugh Keyes Burns
( Toecutter) as The Martian Manhunter!
The aspect of a justice league movie with tons of practical effects blows my mind, i was a super fan of mad max 2, it what kicked me into watching a lot of australian movies, there was one, the title escapes me, it had a scene where the 4 brothers are driving in a yellow fiat 127 and the car is driving down a hill and take a sharp left turn on an urban street and roll the thing and literally the 4 actors spill out of the car and scatter to the 4 winds, it's such a visceral moment for me as it looks like it was entirely shot on the fly, ie no permits, no permission and plenty of camera shake like the camera guy can't believe what he just captured, any idea what the movie was looey??
DeleteSorry Marky, that's a complete blank with me too. The only thing that even sounds close was The FJ Holden 1977 (with Sigrid Thornton's first performance) the titular FJ was yellow, but apart from some drag racing, the film makers were obviously taking good care of it!
ReplyDeleteThe film features 1970s street and shopping centre scenes, so it reminded me of my new Aussie teenage experiences.
There was also a yellow Fiat in Lupin 3rd, The Castle of Cagliostro -but that was Japanese Anime!
Thanks Looey, the only result if I search for this is that Colin Friels film Malcolm.
ReplyDeleteWas there a made for tv version starring mark little??
