Hi, this is my all metal blimp money bank with opening Gondola to remove the coins.
Once blimps were popular in NYC for advertising or filming sporting events from the air.
I haven't seen one over Manhattan for many years, they used to film The US Open but I guess drones are cheaper to operate.
I had intended to repaint this one as I don't care for Budweiser but it turned out the scale is too small to use over my trains!

Ah, blimps! I used to see them over NYC all the time when visiting with Father. A very fond memory. SFZ
ReplyDeleteThe Goodyear blimp makes it's appearance occasionally here in Vegas - usually as part of special race days at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway which is right up the road from our Hovel in Da Hood.
ReplyDeleteNot seen an airship in UK skies ever.
ReplyDeleteIn 1973 I was walking down the A1/A1000 road as it passed under the Archway Bridge in Highgate, north London. This is a main trucking route into London and traffic noise is pretty loud. Over the noise of traffic I heard a purring sound that I associated with movies of airships. Looking up overhead there was a Goodyear Blimp heading towards central London.
DeleteMy father had told me that as a small boy in 1916 he had been taken by tram to Potters Bar, north London to see the wreckage of a shot down Zeppelin.
A few years later in 1974 I moved to NYC where blimps were a common sight in the summer as they televised sporting events.
Haven't seen or heard one for a few years now.
