Last Sunday's boot sale was fun.
I was so chuffed to pick up a modern re-issue of the Transformers Rodimus Prime, the big truck at the back here.
As I'm unlikely ever to find an original 1980's Generation 1 Rodimus, this is as close as I'll get without taking out a second mortgage. For just £6 I got the front cab - Hot Rod - and the fabulous opening rear trailer. Its a wonderful thing, which I first really noticed in my Loose Action Figures 'bible' bought way back in 2000 at the NEC. I've been steadily collecting its contents ever since!
My new Rodimus is just missing the secret canon. Think SPV and Swift Removals and you get the idea.
Have you got a Rodimus Prime?
We also picked up a nice 1993 SPV for Junior for Easter for £2 - just missing the missile and in great shape, together with a slew of late 1970's Hot Wheels including a tiny Zowie, the little one at the end.
I've cleaned them up a little since getting them home.
The metallic red Corvette is very Hot Wheels in looks but is actually a Matchbox Superfast. The 'Woody' and Hot Rod are both late 1970's Hot Wheels, with the brand name in straight lettering on the base.
The little Zowie is my fave of the bunch and is the first I've seen for decades. I had them as a kid in the Sixties, together with tiny planes, although I've no idea what the planes were now. Zowie planes? The Zowie doesn't pick up much speed so I can't imagine Mattel issued track for it. Anyone know about Zowies?
I may make a missile for the Vivid SPV.
Zowies, or Fun Buggies as they were known in the UK were a short run series in the mid seventies. There were two waves, but we only saw one series. The one you have is the Bumble Seat. The only planes that Mattel did at the time were the much larger Hot Birds die cast jets. maybe you're thinking of the later Ring Raiders or Micro machines ?

Fab info thanks. Fun Buggies eh! Love this little Bumble Seat and I'll keep my eye out for any more now. Don't think they were larger Hot Birds my tiny planes and too early for Ring Raiders or Micro Machines. I'm talking late 1960's. But I could be confusing things. I usually do!
DeleteI like the Lego Duplo Batwing for a quid!
ReplyDeleteha ha!
DeleteThe Zowies do not roll well because they have very little weight to them. While I know they were sold in Kalamazoo when I lived there as a child, I never actually saw any for sale but did find a busted up one, most of the plastic broken off, in Zayres parking lot.
ReplyDeleteThe figure with black shorts appears to be one of Lanard Ultra Corp figures which only have removable pants and a molded on shirt.Even the boots are the same but no idea which particular Ultra Corp figure it is.
The blonde figure needs clothes ASAP. The arms and legs are rather hideous with those channels to lessen the amount of plastic used. Those hip joints are pretty bad as well. No idea of his pedigree though other than probably a important from China or Taiwan.
I do believe it is the base figure of Avalanche missing his original pants and gear. I’m not sure why his sleeves and collar are blue but I suspect it was painted by the owner as all the samples I see have a pure white top with black painted gear and this example has some white on the black gear.
DeleteZowie in Zayres! Now there's a band name or album title! ha ha. Fascinating about Avalanche Lance thanks. I see what you mean. I had a look. What about the beard. Is that an ATLAS beard?
DeleteMore pics of the other 'channelled' mystery figures - ugh! - added for clarity. Still no idea at this end. I had thought Crash Test Dummies but nichts, nada, nowt.
The silver go-kart beneath the figure is Action Man/ GI Joe.
DeleteI ID'd the hollowed figure Lance, the Taiyo Edge BMX rider 2002/ The other 12 inch military figure was indeed Lanard. I looked at it again this Sunday!
