I saw this mostly Japanese bundle of old space plastic on auction and thought Wow! There's Vanguards - we used to see these a lot on the blog - and more in there, together with Flying Sub and a Spindrift mini-models.
Some nice stuff there! I have the tin Non Stop robo (it's a repro circa 1997) as The Gang Of Five. The vintage space stuff is lovely. The Keshi bagged sets are making me scratch my head, there are too many reflections on the bags to make a definite ID on what they are!
Hey Looey - they are the 'Vanguard's that Woodsy is on about - see more here: https://projectswordtoys.blogspot.com/2017/11/bobs-vintage-space-toys.html Bill
I used to have that Mercury space capsule, got it from a seaside shop in West Kirby on the Wirral. It was plastic with a little yellow handle which flew off every time it hit the deck! I'm not sure it made it back from the beach with the capsule! Bill
Ah Ha! Bill comes through! So Vanguards, after the Midori kits, huh? With better pics I can see they are actually moulded in polythene. I thought they were moulded in that vinyl rubber or "Keshi" that the Japanese so love. I remember being at a trash and treasure market in the late 70s or early 80s with my Dad and a kid walked past us with a red and blue vinyl toy in his hand. I INSTANTLY recognised it as a Space Cruiser Yamato! There followed a desperate scramble through the entire market in search of more. Finally I found a stall with a biscuit tin containing a bunch of rubber figures including a big (6") Gundam villain robot, but no more Yamatos! (sob!)

Well spotted Bill. Bob Aucutt did some interesting stuff. Wonder if he got his action figures off the ground?
DeleteWhats Keshi Looey? A brand?

ReplyDeleteYou have a few capsules don't you Bill? The original Major Tom you are. Isn't there a GREY one with astronauts sat in it?
DeleteYep - Clifford did a nice big gemini capsule, with opening doors and two astronauts.
DeleteI didn't have one of those as a kid. Did you get yours at Christmas back in the day Bill?

I never saw Yamato Looey. I just wasn't aware of Japanese TV shows back then.
