My latest trio of second hand Hot Wheels.
Two Beetles or Kafers as they're known in Deutschland [I love the metallic green one harking back to redline glory!] and a slick red buggy.
They're all dated as follows: 1982, 1988 and 1988.
Having gone down this rabbit hole before, I knew the dates were red herrings, simply being the original release years for theses specific designs.
The real reissue dates should read: 2017 Dino Riders 5-Pack, 2014 Fourth of July and 2022 Compact Kings Bug.
The date trap!
Well done on the dates. Just because a date is cast in metal, or moulded in plastic, does not mean that it applies to the version of a model you have in your hand. It probably only refers to the basic casting.
ReplyDeleteI well remember finding a couple of Corgi Juniors Tom and Jerry models at a fair. My guess was late 1970s (actually 1980). So I got a real shock when I was looking at them after getting home. The models were dated 1940, well before Corgi even came in to existance. That was the year Tom and Jerry first appeared in the movies. So that date had nothing to do with the models at all.
The Tom and Jerry cars are a super example of the date issue Paul, good one. 1940 eh! Blimey, that's a long time. I was interested to see that the early version of Mickey Mouse is now in the public domain. I wonder how that affects dates; being in the public domain?
DeleteAh the good ol' Megaforce Megadestroyer buggy! Looks like they finally filled the roof holes for the roof missle rack. They've also done something to the laser unit mount, appears to be a partial fill/something at the back of the rear. Maybe it is a diecast stubby version of the laser.
ReplyDeleteIt was renamed to Super Cannon and then later to Enforcer which is the longest running name for the casting.

Thanks Lance. Yep, the Enforcer and a great example of the date trap. I have the green military version somewhere, which I think was linked to a film. Its amazing how long Hot Wheels keep these and other designs going.
