These London Taxis really bring back memories for me, even though I grew up in the States. Somebody amongst my friends must have had one or more of the DInky Toys of these, because I recall loving them and wanting them...
I bought the toy from my local newsagent in 1968. In the street parked outside was my actual Austin FX3 taxi, I had stopped on my way to college for a tin of pipe tobacco and saw the model on my way into the store.
A tin of Balkan Sobranie, which I alternated with Clan. Smoking was allowed in the college studios then and when the room filled with cigarette smoke I would light my pipe. Then, cigarette smokers realised how disgusting breathing second hand smoke was. I may have dissuaded a few people from cigarette smoking forever.

ReplyDeleteI love these taxis Terran. That Fairylite toy car is a real treasure. When and where did you get that beauty?
