SFZ mentioned his childhood 707 which brought to mind the Alps PanAm 707 from my collection.
I remember having one tin-litho airliner as a kid but can't remember what type it was. It would have been something that preceded the Boeing 747 so I'm thinking 707(?), 727(?).
In any case, I've been fortunate enough to acquire a few of these wonderful tin birds for my collection. Also, here's my YouTube video of this plane from 2021:
Enjoy.

Another great toy, in excellent condition.
ReplyDeleteI had a smaller Boeing 707 (I think), which had a friction motor, and tinplate engine nacelles. Not sure if it was made in Japan or Hong Kong. The wings got pretty bent over the years. There was also a Bell 47 helicopter, but the plastic rotor blades soon broke.
I miss these old tin toys. I had a bunch and I used to take them apart. They had a lot of sharp edges... ;-) I think I had mostly robots, a few cars, but I think only one plane. I remember seeing the inside surfaces were sometimes painting with various irrelevant illustrations, I guess some of the toys were made with re-purposed tin?
ReplyDeleteWhat a glorious, glorious beast! Pan American was THE airline back in those days. This toy really brings back fond memories - many thanks for sharing. SFZ
ReplyDeleteThat is just magnificent Ed!
