Don't know if the top 5 are THE best, but they certainly are very good. There are so many good ones, I'd struggle to choose.
ReplyDeleteCheers Kev, I realised looking at this list that I must have stopped watching the X-Files quite early on in the 90's after a few seasons. I just don't recall them, at least the titles, at all, so the later episodes will be new to me if I get to watch them.
DeleteI started watching them again the other nigh, out of sheer boredom as theres nothing good on tv lately! I skipped a few early episodes and concentrated on the ones with monsters and aliens. 'Squeeze' and 'Tooms' are really good. 'Beyond the Sea' and 'Fallen Angel' are among my favourites. Not sure I will be able to wade through the entire boxsets, but I might pick away at them over time. Oddly enough, I noted that Dr Who's back catalogue is on iplayer at the moment, so went back a few decades to watch some of the Troughton and Pertwee era episodes. They haven't aged well. So many episodes are now lost and are substituted with animated shows to fill in the gaps, but watching early Cybermen, Silurians and Axons, its hard to not notice the flaws in both the scenery and some of the acting. The budget was clearly increased with the latter part of the Pertwee era, as watching The Daemons, there's a palpable change in production values. Its hard to believe I was so wrapped up in Dr Who so long ago, as it is so woolly by todays standards. I may persevere with a few more dalek or favourite monster episodes, but I wont go further than the Tom Baker era, as thats where we parted company until many years later, when I dipped my toe into Eccleston and Tennant, before it all went away again with the watery Matt Smith.

Hey, a fellow X-Filer watching too! ha ha. The Repeats are Out There! Not sure I can watch every episode. It will take months, but I would like to. I am a lightweight though when it comes to TV series. I do lose focus! As for the Doctor, I didn't know they were all on iPlayer. I will have to re-watch the Sea Devils for a start! Post-Pertwee I stopped watching altogether Bill. I'm trapped in Galafrayan aspic.
DeleteBesides I had a major incident watching Who as a young teenager. Excited to get down to watch the latest episode of the Time Lord, I over- hurried zipping in the lav and .... let's just say my Sonic Screwdriver was damaged and remained bandaged for a month!
DeleteI think this incident was in March 1973. The Dikler had won a horserace and my predicament became forever known in the family as the Dikler Experience! Not sure which Dr. Who story arc was on then.
DeleteMy watching methods are as stuck in the past as my watching subjects, I've got all of XFiles and all that exists of 'classic' Doctor Who on dvd!
ReplyDeleteWe are but excited wasps trapped in the jams of time Kev.
DeleteI'm getting more content with my interests being stuck in the past. Really, I'm just being consistent, I have always been interested in certain things and it has never really changed just occasionally added to.
ReplyDeleteDid you always want to be a scientist?
DeleteI was always interested in science but I think my prime motivation for choosing Physics was that it was the academic subject that involved the least writing!
Deleteha ha! I ask because my Grandson wants to be a scientist. He's 7. His passions are rocks and space!
DeleteSounds good. Space geology is a thing.
DeleteWe just started re-watching X-Files recently as well. Don’t remember the episode titles very well, but glad to see that “Home” and “Beyond the Sea” are on there. We’re going in sequence, still in Season 1. They’re all fun, even the duds, and better than anything current! SFZ
