I recall a Star Trek episode involving a character called Gary Seven. Do you?
His mission was to tamper in some way with the first Apollo moon shot as the rocket stood ready on the gantry. I forget what he had to do.
It reminds me of something similar in the Men in Black films. I think its 2 or 3, where a young Tommy Lee Jones' character has to put something on the Apollo rocket.
I imagine there are more instances of this in film and comics. Did it ever happen in Gerry Anderson's worlds?
In the Star Trek episode, it wasn't an Apollo launch, but only stock footage of the Apollo 4 launch. (Apollo 11 hadn't happened yet at the time of the filming of the episode.)
ReplyDeleteIn the story, it was supposed to be an orbiting nuclear weapons platform that he was sabotaging.
That was Assignment: Earth, featuring Robert Lansing and Teri Garr. It was an attempt to spin off a new series starring the duo. Interesting story about Womanizer Roddenberry here (the guy was a dog): https://redshirtsalwaysdie.com/2021/05/29/why-teri-garr-walked-off-the-star-trek-set/
ReplyDeleteWow, never heard that about Roddenberry! Too bad, he did some amazing SF for network TV.
DeleteGary Seven could have been a good Time Lord
ReplyDeleteI wonder if any interloper has ever actually got near a NASA rocket in reality?
