This is a toy I've never seen in the flesh, the wondrous Fairylite Fireball XL5.
It's as rare as hen's teeth and we first saw it, on the blog, in 2009 via super collector Jim Lewis, who owned a loose example, one of only several known.
It would appear the box was not known until recently judging by some of the custom fantasy boxes for this toy on Ebay.
Here's one with its super rare original box, the first I've seen, as it appeared this year in May on auction at C&T:
Beautiful!
Look at the final price!
Have you seen one? Have you got one!

I had thought it had appeared in this old clip too, about the Phil Rae - Mick Hall Gerry Anderson collections on Noel Edmond's Telly Addicts in the 90's, but its the huge American Fireball XL5, so I was mistaken.
Anyways, have a go at Noel's Gerry Anderson quiz! How did you do?
That is a beautiful toy. Estimate 80 to 120 pounds, winning bid 5200 pounds. Wow.
ReplyDeleteI know. Eye watering!
DeleteI've always wanted a Fireball XL-5 whether it be a stand-alone ship or an entire playset but they have always been pricey. I do have some of the MPC accessories that came in various playsets but sadly no XL-5
ReplyDeleteI bet there's one in your cave somewhere Ed!
Deletehahahaha - nope, sorry Woodsy! risking life-&-limb I went out in The Cave this weekend and checked. No Fireball, not even a hairball! :-)
DeleteHa ha, Hairball XL5! Love it!
