I remember Woobinda the Animal Doctor.
It was the late Sixties and this Australian animal show fitted right in with others like Skippy, Flipper and of course Daktari.
You can see and hear the Woobinda theme here https://youtu.be/Rpe7PkEbtgk
Despite lots of vehicles and a plane in the show I couldn't find any die-cast vehicle toy sets whatsoever.
This is surprising given the merchandise from Daktari, especially the Corgi set with the striped landrover and the plastic figures, which I adored as a kid.
Was Woobinda not as successful as Daktari? I had annuals for them both I'm sure.
I do not remember this series, even after looking at the opening credits. There does not seem to be much around, apart from the Annuals you mentioned, and a Little Golden Book.
ReplyDeleteThere is a little bit of information on Nostalgia Central, including a list of episodes. This says 1969-70, and 39 x half-hour episodes.
We used to jokingly call it 'Woodbinder : Tree Surgeon' !
ReplyDeletegod I loathed this, along with Skippy, Lassie, Flipper, White Horses, The Aeronauts and Robinson Crusoe! Daktari was a bit funny with poor Clarence the Cross Eyed Lion, but all the rest of the imported programmes were so dull. The trouble was, back in the sixties it was three channels and that was it! ReplyDeleteand don't get me started on Tinga and Tucka!
ReplyDeleteI often get Daktari confused with the John Wayne film Hatari! about big game hunting, interesting as they used rocket propelled nets! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056059/
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Skippy, Lassie, Flipper, and Daktari. I do not think the others made it to New Zealand. In the 1960s we had only one channel, with very limited viewing hours. Three channels sounds like heaven.
ReplyDeleteBlimey. These shows brought out extreme reactions it would seem! I enjoyed them all and remember Woobinda fondly!
