Seeing Caroline Munro late on every Friday night I got to wondering what happened to Valerie Leon. Where's her Cellar Club?
I was chuffed to see she's alive and kicking and from the looks of her website very busy and popular still like Caroline and attending conventions and promoting Carry On films.
Who would you say was more famous back in the day? Caroline or Valerie?
both ladies shot to fame for non film related reasons, Caroline as the dusky pirate maiden in Lambs Navy Rum and Valerie as the fixated vixen in the Hai Karate adverts. I always recall seeing Valerie in Blood from the Mummys Tomb and Caroline in one of the Sinbad films.
ReplyDeleteYes, Blood from the Mummy was a great film and her severed hand was on the cover pf my favourite monster film book as a kid! Those TV ads were just so great. I must say I can't stand TV or any ads, esp. internet, now! I'm a dinosaur!
DeleteSince I didn't know who Valerie Leon was until I looked her up (!), I'll say Caroline Munro was the more famous - at least here in the States. We Hammer nerds waited for any new Caroline Munro project with baited breath! However, Blood from the Mummy's Tomb is one of my favorite Brit horrors, so I'm embarrassed that I didn't know that Valerie Leon was the girl!
ReplyDeleteha ha, no worries Zigg. I hadn't realised that Raquel Welch was an American until I looked her up last night. I thought she was a Brit!
DeleteValerie Leon, Caroline Munro and Madeline Smith must be the three classic Brit sex symbols. I've met Valerie (very posh) and Madeline (mad as a box of frogs), and once saw Caroline striding down Baker Street in a huge fur coat with a couple of giant dogs on leads. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteGreat memories Kitten. I'd no idea that Valerie Leon was so posh. Madeline Smith was quite beautiful.
