I have just fired up my laptop again after a gap of 5 weeks to do some blogging. Its taken at least 25 minutes to start itself up and is chugging and buffering as if its having to translate the complete works of Shakespeare into Klingon before it starts.
Its such a complete pain in the arsch.
This is in complete contrast to my new smartphone, which is an absolute breeze and worked instantly and perfectly every time I used it abroad this past month. It fires up in a milli-second. There is no wait at all. Its just small.
So I have to ask myself - apart from Apple and it's iPad tablet - why don't mobile phone companies simply make a version of a smartphone that's much bigger and folds in the middle like a laptop.
A lap-phone?
My laptop, which is so old that bits of plastic keep falling off it is completely incapable of doing anything online now. I use my phone for all of that interweb malarkey.
ReplyDeleteHa ha.sounds like me Kev. Bits and falling off!
DeleteIf everything you do is web based, take a look at a Chromebook. It's Android based, boots almost immediately, can be relatively cheap, includes a full size keyboard and touchpad (as well as the ability to link a Bluetooth or wired mouse and boots very quickly.
ReplyDeletevery interesting Bill. I actually have two ancient laptops of yours I think!
DeleteAh. The abpve comment about two ancient laptops was for Wotan. Sorry Bill. I got my Bill's mixed up!
DeleteChromebooks are great if your just surfing, but for anything constructive or creative, forget it. They wont touch anything Microsoft and just use Googles proprietary word processors. We have so many issue with them in University, as PC World keep pushing them on to students!
ReplyDeleteYou'd do much better with a tablet - or an ipad like Mrs Moonbase.
I already take a tablet every day. I don't want any more. Besides, I like a keyboard on my lap so I can type with two hands!
DeleteMaybe consider getting a bluetooth keyboard. One of my iPad minis is in a leather case with a cover. The cover opens up to reveal the bluetooth keyboard. It is held in place with some small magnets to keep it secure but can be removed for comfort.
DeleteInteresting Lance. Thanks for the tip.
