I saw a purse the other day with a metal logo lettered K WEST.
I've no idea what K WEST means on a purse but it immediately took me back to my youth as K. West means something to me from way back when.
Its the illuminated sign in the street above Ziggy's head on the LP cover of Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars! I adored this record and still have the very same one! How sad is that!
Small world though eh!
No idea what K. West meant on the LP cover either - a Martian quest maybe? - but I will always remember the name!
Did you have Ziggy Stardust readers?
A great album, with some awesome guitar work from Mick Ronson. The photo, taken by Brian Ward was in B/W, and recoloured by Terry Pastor. Rumour has it that Bowie had flu when that photo was taken and didn't want to go far from Brian Ward's Heddon Street studio.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the street has changed over the years,(the K.West sign has long gone, but is reputed to still exist) the building apparently has a plaque commemorating the event.
Apparently, the firm of furriers that was the K.West sign in photo, weren't happy that the sign appeared on the album cover. The K stands for Konn, after the owner, Henry Konn, and West refers to the west end of London. So, disappointingly, no astral connection it seems!
