I saw this trio of SpaceX on Worthpoint a while back and saved the pics.
The seller said that "All Are Made Of Hard Plastic" which I'm surprised at as I thought the two white-part vehicles would have been softer plastic like these two cloned examples I have.
So are the two white-part vehicles from the Spanish Bullycan range Aviones Cosmicos?
Here's a group shot of the many of the colour combinations from a Spanish collector.
From these and others online I can't see any white parts. Besides, even though the SpaceX Hawk is in the Spanish range the SpaceX Supply Force Mercury isn't so I think we can rule them out.
So not Bullycan and hard plastic. What are those white SpaceX? Prototypes? Painted toys? Customs?
Have you got them in your collection?
I saw these at auction and wondered the same. My initial thought was that the yellow nose on the Mercury looks like its been painted. My second thought was 3d printing, but the yellow mercury seems to have a little tag of mould flash on the left side. The Aviones Cosmico have a little bit of distortion in the softer plastic, which isn't present in these examples, so i think its safe to assume they are rigid plastic. My final thought was with the Mercury retaining its original red tail and the Hawk the orange base, that they had in fact been painted.
ReplyDeleteThe Hawk pilot is orange, not chrome. Don't know if that means anything.
ReplyDeleteSee what you mean Kev. Theyre really quite well detailed those two white ships.
ReplyDeleteI asked the seller when those were up on fleabay last year, and unfortunately he couldn't say anything because he got them at an estate sale. He described them as "commercially produced plastic" and didn't say anything about paint. He had at least one other lot with a cheap plastic airplane sporting a white bottom half as well. Because it wasn't just Spacex toys I figured the original owner had somehow made replacement parts in white. The yellow nose and orange pilot could simply have had their plating stripped. But the why and whatfor never made any sense to me. One mystery that will stay that way.

Thanks for your insights Paul. Yep, it looks like they'll remain a mystery!
