Woodsy mentioned earlier that rumour had it that a die-cast model of SKY 1 might have been considered by Dinky. I've not heard of this myself, but I would have loved Dinky to have done one; I wonder what colour they would have chosen for it?
It did remind me, however of this postcard I got at one of the excellent SHADO conventions I attended a few years ago.
Before anyone gets too excited, I should point out it's totally made up.
This wonderful piece of hokum was created by Andrew- Mark Thompson, a talented chap who specialises in impressive fake book covers, especially made up Target Doctor Who paperbacks.
Here's a link to his blogspot:
As a kid, this is the one toy I always wanted them to make. The Product Enterprises one means a lot to me because it is the closest to what it would've been like.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Kev, although the P.E. one hasn't got spring-loaded missiles, rubberised tyres and painted the wrong colour!;D
ReplyDeleteFascinating stuff Scoop. Lovely custom box art. The Sky 1 rumour I mentioned can be found here in the comments at the bottom of this interesting post on Dinky Toys Space and Specials https://dinkytvspace.com/space-toys/367-space-battle-cruiser/
ReplyDeleteInteresting, Woodsy. It appears that the person who runs the site has come up with the SKY 1 theory, himself, and even proposes that the Trident is altered SKY 1 tooling too. He may well be right, it's hard say for sure. I'm certainly happy to remain open-minded about it, but to be honest I read it as pure speculation on his part.
