Further ashtray action today - 1970's retro action.
This big green glass beast is one I really remember in my parent's house and other homes.
A huge heavy basin, it simply had a presence when placed on a table or a sideboard.
Not sure who made these behemoths but they made an impression.
Do you recall them?
Although ours was a different design, I do remember these, particularly in green, Woodsy. Although I don't seem to recollect any other colours, at least not in our house. Guess they were produced in other colours?
ReplyDeleteGreen really sticks in my mind too Tone. Along with the tall thin glass vases and the huge organic Morello glass vases the whole house was a glass palace back then!
DeleteMy Mum favoured blue glassware. One bowl that she had (and I still have), had the bizarre property that when you dropped copper coins into it, it gave off an ultrasonic harmonic that matched that of the TV remote and the channel would change!
DeleteThat's just amazing Kev. Did someone discover that harmonic accidentally?
DeleteI worked it out. The TV remote was an early one, it was ultrasonic not infra red like most are nowadays (if they're not Bluetooth). It took a bit for me to realise what must be happening!
DeleteYou were a fizzisist even then Kev!
DeleteThose things were everywhere when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteThough I've never smoked I kind of miss them and have wondered about repurposing some of the ones I've seen at thrift shops... Maybe for holding pain brushes.
If I ever make a horror movie I'd be sure to have a seen where one is used as a murder weapon.
I reckon they would be great paint pots Knobgobbler or indeed a terrible weapon, which I'm sure will have been used in one of those 60's series like Man in a Suitcase or Danger Man. Would you say there is less smoking now in the US than back when we were kids?
