I think my Dinky that got away was the Captain Scarlet Patrol Car. I finally found a nicely priced example at an antique shop in the UK about five years ago. I retouched the chipped edges with Tamiya transparent red paint and made a new antenna, but otherwise I left it as it was. I think I've almost got everything I never had, but wanted now!
Alas, I never had any of the big, expensive Dinky or Corgi models. For me it was Matchbox, Corgi Juniors, and Fun Ho ! Not sure if I even had any Hot Wheels, although I did have a few Zylmex from Hong Kong, which were similar. It is only over the last couple of decades that I have added a few Dinky and Corgi models to my collection.
I also liked the Dinky purple El Dorado when I was a kid and managed to score a mint boxed one many years later. It now sits in the man cave with quite a few other diecasts facing all my space toys.
