Reading my beloved Board Games books by Desi Scarpone I saw a game I'd not noticed before. Mr. Rembrandt by Ideal from 1970.
I've never seen Mr. Rembrandt in the flesh and on first impressions I thought the robot involved in the game was the famous Mr. Machine, also by Ideal.
Looking closer I see its a different plastic robot and one capable of drawing. Mr. Rembrandt is a mixture of a toy robot and spirograph. How cool is that!
Besides pictures on online auctions like the ones shown I also found this video footage of the artistic droid. What do you think of this toy game?
Well that has gotta be the coolest thing I have ever seen! I do not recall this beauty from my childhood at all. I had a friend who had a Mr Machine, and as an arty kid, I went through several boxes of Spirograph, but this one slipped by me. Just amazing!
ReplyDeletePS: Ideal Toy was one of the coolest, IMHO, especially since they also had a plastic model hobby kit line, branded as both ITC and Ringo. Plastic, plastic, plastic!
DeleteI agree, Ideal were just brilliant Zigg! Mr Rembrandt is so cool. Too cool for art school! ha ha
