I can't take credit for the original concepts - these are all reboots of pix from Japanese transfer picture books of the late 1950s. But a Flying Space Tank you know I just had to try!
A friend suggested that since I'm using gouache basically as poster paint, I could have as easily created these with a digital art software program. Which is true. But I like the act of painting, and it made me feel a little bit like the commercial artist who painted the originals back in the 1950s.
Tasty work Rob.
ReplyDeleteI particularly like the flying Tank/Mars Rover one.

DeleteBeautiful Rob, such talent. These pictures could well grace a gallery wall or a fabulous space expo! Thanks for sharing.

DeleteNaah, don't go digital. Paint. Fresh paint. That's real painting!
DeleteLovely work!
ReplyDeleteAn evocation of a simpler, less licensed past!
These were fun to do, and those colors remind me of the spacecraft in George Pal's Conquest of Space, one of my favorite SF films of the 50s.
