Its Sunday morning here at Moonbase. The sun is shining and the sky is a pale washed blue. Spring is definately in the air and the birds are getting frisky.
There's something on the box about the rising power of Facebook so I've muted it.
My Missus is outside putting six bags of unwanted stuff on the front step for people who said they wanted it on freecycle. Mostly old plates from our daughter's wedding and some unwanted books. There's a pile still to be listed. She's just quipped what if we put everything we had on freecycle! I immediately thought of my old books, old toys and old videos and said .... forget it!
Stuff on freecycle can be eye-wateringly new and expensive looking, brand new and never used in some cases. Huge loads of kids toys, entire kitchen units and even a garage, if you came and took it down. In fact one of the most common phrases used is.. if it doesn't go to a good home it'll go to the tip tomorrow! I dread to think what end up in landfill, stuff which would kit out entire homes. Crazy. People must renew their belongings constantly. Could be an age thing. Our stuff is ancient.
Anyways, as Spring wakes up, things in England seem to be tilting towards what used to be. Schools re-open in a week, 7 million schoolkids all migrate back. I'll have to migrate back with them too. Luckily I get my first dose of the vaccine this coming Saturday, a day before the onslaught. My Missus isn't 60 yet so she'll have to wait a bit. How was it for you readers, the vaccine?
We've joined Amazon Prime for a month's trial via the telly's firestick. I've been watching Tommy Lee Jones, one of my favourite actors. In a week I've seen In the Electric Mist, Shock and Awe and last night I saw The Valley of Elah. There's just something about his acting, his voice and matter-of-factness that appeals to me. Might see another one tonight depending on what the Missus wants to watch.
I noticed in a few American films recently that coffee appears to be always served from large glass jugs straight from the machine and that hardly anyone acts milk or sugar. This throws up a few questions. Does nobody drink instant coffee in the States and is the drinking of black coffee universal or is it simply a time-saver in movies? Hmm. I need a coffee!
8am is when I get up on the weekend. I could probably lie in bed all day if I didn't force myself to get up. The alarm goes off at 7.30am and repeats itself for half an hour keeping in a state of suspended animation and softens the final shock its 8 '0' clock. That semi-sleep state is a strange time for dreams, drifting in and out of consciousness like breaching fish. This morning I dreamt about my teenage sweethearts - or birds I went out with as I would have said back then. I knocked on the door of the one I was with the longest, Janet, and when she opened it I was horrified. Standing their was an old woman. All the beauty of youth had faded and the years had caught up. All sixty of them. Like me, she'd got older and 45 years passed just opening the door. Wherever you are Janet I hope you're OK.
There's still coffee going so I'm off for a refill - with milk and sugar - and then I'd better think about getting dressed to take Blue boy out for his morning ablutions near the cemetery.
Going for a drive today so we get out of the house.
Have a good day readers. Let us know what you're up to!
Up early, I always am. Done a bit of work on a Blakes 7 prop replica I'm making. Then read a bit of a book about 'Star Cops',a BBC show that made only 9 episodes in 1987, but I'm a big fan of it. Am now sitting on the sofa browsing the interweb whilst my dog is asleep next to me. Not sure what the day has to offer yet but it will be from a restricted list of options for a while longer yet.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen Blakes 7 or Star Cops Kev. I was in Germany in 1987 so that might explain that one. Enjoy your Cheshire Sunday.
DeleteNot an early riser, so the day is a bit unplanned yet. A little work, then maybe a walk for fresh air and exercise.
ReplyDeleteWoody, if you like Tommy Lee Jones, I suggest you try "The Fugitive" film. He plays a very cynical policeman with wonderful lines, steals the film.
I love the Fugitive Andy, yes, its a great film, Its follow-up US Marshalls is a great Tommy Lee bonanza as well. He steals that one too.
DeleteMe and the Missus have just finished breakfast. Two boiled eggs with soft centres eaten out of Thunderbirds Egg Cups with Garlic Salt... There is a beautiful blue sky outside, and the lawn beckons to have its first cut of the year.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, I loved a boiled eggs for breakfast, and later in the day I'd have a go at mowing the lawn. So what's needed this afternoon is an episode of Gigantor or Thunderbirds (or even better, both!)
F.A.B guys!
I hope your day was as relaxing as your morning Bill. ThunderSunday! Thunday!
DeleteLovely start to the day here, Woodsy. Sunshine through the window; enjoyed a much needed lie in with a bit of gentle reading and breakie in bed. My less than industrious aim for the rest of the day is to trawl ebay, look for good movies on telly and relax. The only way I'll do anything more dynamic is if I'm surgically removed from the comfort of the sofa.
ReplyDeleteI hope are still snug on the settee Tone! Sounds wunderbar!
DeleteI don't drink coffee but most everyone I know does,so I keep it on hand for company. If I have a crowd (hopefully again soon),I use the coffee maker with the glass container you mentioned. Its a quick way to make 10 to 12 servings. For just me or one guest,I use Keurig Pods.Im only guessing you know what this is as it seems to be maybe a German or Swiss invention. In case the answer is no,Keurig Pods are individual servings of dry coffee, tea or chocolate in small plastic cups. They are placed in a machine and water is filtered through the pod.No worry about unused coffee going to waste.Black Coffee, no cream or sugar, seems to be the choice of people on the go, or facing a long tedious work day.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of Keurig Brian but it sounds interesting and handy. Oddly enough the watchword for bad coffee here in the UK is a brand called Maxpax, instant coffee from a machine often in offices. not sure its still around but it was gross!
DeleteCorrection!Keurig is an American invention, at least thats what I gleaned from an internet search.I made the wrong assumption, sorry!Anyway, if you are not familiar, Google it.Interesting little gadget.
ReplyDeleteI mainly drink tea rather than coffee, but both with milk and sugar. Not a fan of black coffee, and black tea is undrinkable. Similar makes of coffee machine are available, we had one at work at my previous employer (the one that closed down). Very expensive, but great coffee. It had a milk frother attachment on the side.
ReplyDeleteA milk frother! Wow, that's fancy coffee right there Paul. We have a little hand frother for cappucinos at home. Very nice.
