Here’s a little model I just finished, which I dubbed “RoboCar,” because I have no idea what the Japanese characters on the box say! (Maybe a Moonbase reader could help out with translation?) It’s from a small company called Grip, and it’s the usual “action kit” with a windup motor. From the 1970s I would guess. Has kind of a “Hot Rod Transformer” feel to it, yes?

Docking Machine Super Magnetic Robo 2 !! They always have awesome names! One of their original SF kits from the 70s. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/grip-553-super-magnetic-robo-2--1312359
ReplyDeleteEidai/Grip was a small toy company that made tons of small diecast toys including anime and Japanese live action superhero/robots. They also made diecast toys from Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Joe 90, UFO.
They also made model kits. Their German Secret strongpoint kit is a holy grail among collectors. I remember getting their Flakpanzer Wirbelwind as a kid in a model shop in York during the mid 70s when Hasegawa, Fujimi and other military model kits were being imported into the UK. It was a very basic kit - the wheels and tracks were one piece and I think the model only had about a dozen parts, but it was such an obscure
vehicle. Good for them for producing it.
Here's a link to all the known kits Grip made - https://www.scalemates.com/search.php?fkSECTION%5B%5D=Kits&q=grip.
And their SF diecasts - http://toyboxdx.com/datafiles/data/eidai/
Enjoy!
Wow thanks for the translation - much appreciated!
DeleteThats got quite a Microman feel to it. Didn’t know Eidai did kits too!
ReplyDeleteI think Eidai did the Battle of the Planets model kit series, of which I have their “Space Wheel” built up and badly painted.
DeleteMaybe the Space Wheel needs an airing on MC Zigg!
