I've always been fascinated by that unique toy robot, the Dux Astroman. Made in West Germany its so unlike any other toy bot with its green body and domed head. I've never had one but can spot it a mile off in books and online. So I was pleasantly surprised to see its image being used on this record cover by the Astromen, Destroy All Astromen!
Have you got a Dux Astroman or have you heard this record readers? Your Astroman thoughts welcomed!
Its a rare West German robot that had a remote control and could bend at the waist and pick things up.
ReplyDeleteA very useful robot to have!
DeleteI'm pretty sure the Toy Museum at Luralla in Leura NSW has one on display. If any of you Moonbasers ever make it down to Australia, I'll take you on a tour as its an amazing place with an extensive and varied collection of items.

Its a date Looey!
DeleteDestroy All Astroman was a very cool LP that came out in the early 90s, which featured a bunch of rather crude rock instrumentals, very much like a garage band version of The Ventures or Johnny and the Hurricanes. I got it primarily because of the TWO references to Japanese sci-fi movies on the cover. The title was obviously a riff on the 1968 Toho classic, "Destroy All Monsters," and the band name, "Man... or Astroman," was the main advertising tagline for the 1964 U.S. release of Toho's extra-cool SF flick, The Human Vapor! Sadly, no real reference to Japanese culture was in the songs, but it was cool anyways...
ReplyDeleteand to think all I saw was a German toy robot. You know your Japanese pop culture Zigg. Have you ever thought about living there?
