Hi Woodsie, just a quick note after your nice version of 1960's header card art.
I love this old style art (the baby's bottle looks more like a cigar!) and it's the feel I want to evoke with the toys I'm making.
here's a real vintage baby's bottle header:
Here's a not finished (i'm still not 100% happy with the face) layout for some of my vinyl toy packaging, alongside the original art that inspired it.
With the serial numbers filed off, no one is going to recognize it!
My Besset header:
My adventures in Merchandising still to come!
Oh man! we are SO on the same wavelength with this stuff!
I love that your blocks label! The combination of disparate fonts, the horizontal lined header, the simplistic drawing style with the broad white border, maybe to allow for misaligned printing plates!
I'm designing my own "Art" toys because I want to evoke the feelings of childhood, but to imbue them with an arch adult sensibility.
Here's my heroine in a prototype Apollo Lunar Suit, sadly I missed getting this into production in time for the 50th Anniversary, but the actual process of making vinyl toys is SO MUCH MORE DIFFICULT than I would ever have imagined! I thought I was pretty smart when it comes to sculpting and moulding, given my years of film experience, but I'm starting again from scratch when it comes to making moulds out of metal!
Anyway, if you haven't seen it already, here is my toy making blog with all my triumphs and failures laid out in public view. -Plus some Besset cartoons so you can get a full measure of what my character is like!
https://www.instagram.com/lewispmorley/ Start from the oldest posts and scroll through my travails to get an idea of just how difficult this task is -never mind me making my Captain Scarlet inspired puppet film!
Of course you can blog the header card, I won't tease too much, but some of my Besset toys are directly inspired by toys from the 60's, - think Astronauts and Spies!
Keep on Bloggin' (and thanks for your interest)
