This is an old family shot of the Woodsies and chums at Butlins in the Sixties.
That's me in the stripey T-shirt holding the ship.
Does anyone recognise my blue speedboat with its pull-string lying on the floor?
I'd love to know the make and name again!
Did you go to Butlins?
Though working class, we never went to Butlins.
ReplyDeleteMy father had been a Prisoner of War in WW2 and, though I'm sure he was exaggerating, said he didn't want to repeat the experience.
Mish.
Aw, sorry about your Dad's experience Mish. Must have been terrible. Butlins was a bit hemmed-in. When I was even younger than in this piccy I spent time in a playpan at Butlin's own nursery I think. Even more hemmed-in!
DeleteHe was an outdoor type, so we used to go camping in the Lakes every year.
ReplyDeleteMish.
Sounds idyllic Mish. there won't have been anywhere near as much traffic around in the Lakes back then as there is now. I lived in Preston down the road. Don't think I ever went camping with my folks but I discovered the Lakes for myself in the Indian Summer of 1976. Camping with a load of mates, we roamed the hills and felt free. We were 16, we'd just left school and the world was grand. When I got a family of my own we went camping all the time with our daughter and dog. My daughter's taking her family 'glamping' soon. The torch has been passed.
Deletedon't recognise the green boat, but the other looks like Tudor Rose. Havent you still got those shorts ? Whats Ste playing with ?
ReplyDeleteGreen? That's blue! As for my older bro, he's staring at my boat and think how he can destroy it in the most dramatic way possible!
DeleteWell greeny blue. Whos the fair haired lad and whats he holding?
ReplyDeleteThat's the son of my Mum n dad's best buddies, the Gotts, who are in the shot. My Dad took the photo. i think he's holding a tinplate spinning top of some sort, which seems to have a stick or rod coming out of it.
DeleteIt was whilst camping in Coniston, in about 1969, that I was bought my first and only Sword toy.
ReplyDeleteIt was the Task Force No1 I believe (the paper dart shaped one).
Mish.
What a great memory Mish! So it went into the tent with you, box and all?
DeleteYep, but I mostly played with it on the lake shore.
ReplyDeleteMish.
I have to ask, you don't have any photoes of your TF1 on the lakeside?
DeleteAlas no Woodsy. Nor do I have the toy.
ReplyDeleteIt was thrown away, along with almost all my remaining toys, comics and annuals, by my mother when I left home to go to Polytechnic.
Mish.
Yes, why do Parent's do that Mish? I have hardly anything either. I learnt the lesson and have kept everything of our Daughters. She's 36 now and its still in out attic! Its being her kids stuff, not her!
