The Blue Silver from the UFO Commander line seems to owe more to sixties automotive design than rock breaking technology and besides having the sleek saucer shape, also suggests the aerodynamic lines of race cars.
The UFO Commander line is hard to come by in good condition and even its american release as Star Mites by Empire are rare, especially the later models.
I have only two toys from the series, but the Blue Silver is a very elegant and stylish toy, with great detailing inside the pink chromed cabin, showing the alien pilot and robot counterpart, seated at the complex controls. Side panels pop open to reveal twin rocket launchers which feature on most of the models, the missiles being invariably missing from loose examples.
Going from the sleek and futuristic, the Jeek Tunneln looks like its just emerged from boring a transatlantic tunnel (Hurrah!) and bears many hallmarks of the Shinsei construction line, most notably the massive radial cutter, which rotates as the vehicle is pushed along.
An elevating cabin lifts up to check progress and a power arm elevates at the rear. Originaly it would have had rubber tracks, but these have perished and snapped over time.
The Jeek is armed with the standard missile launchers on each side and this example has suffered a little more in the toybox than the Blue Silver, but does have some Zero -X style colouration, giving it a nice Andersonesque look.
I remember these. At one point, they were like a dollar at Kmart, and I'd get a new one very week.
