OK readers, get your colour specs on.
Next to Century 21 Toys' Zero-X Take a look at Bandai's Sky Ship 1 above and please tell me which Humbrol blue colour you would say it is [pic: Ferryman].
Here's the Humbrol blue chart
I ummed and aaghed about this for ages.
I've ordered Sea Blue Gloss because I'm impatient! It'll take a few days to arrive so no modelling till then.
Which Blue would you have chosen?
Your choice looks about right to me. I'd have gone for spray though.
ReplyDeleteToo advanced for me spray Kev. Maybe my next one. Never used any spray. I'm a scaredycat!
Deleteoohh - i'd have said Baltic Blue Metallic and spray as Kev says, every time.

Are you looking at the Zero-X? I've already ordered Sea Blue. You spray, I brush.
DeleteSorry guys, but I don't think its blue ! It looks silver to me, with metallic blue ends.
ReplyDeleteMish.
The blue used on various SF craft, both on TV and in modeling, has always been elusive to me. Same is true of course, for the green on Thunderbird 2, which I've seen in so many different shades. I've seen Zero-X toys and models in everything from baby blue to deep indigo, and in a way, they all look right. Don't forget, a flying vehicle looks vastly different in different lighting settings. (Day, night, against the sun, into the sun, etc.)
ReplyDeleteSkyship 1 in the film is silver but the toy is blue. I struggle to find a colour for Zero X but I once heard that the surviving fragment (the main body nose wheel) has zircon blue on its wheel well doors, the same colour as the Dinky SPV (and my old Austin Maestro!).
ReplyDeleteI thought you’d id’d it as Kingfisher Blue kev?
DeleteI made a model in that colour and it looked okay. The trouble with colours is they look totally different on screen (light blue Shado mobile look grey or an Oyster gold Skydiver looks green), so you end up choosing either how it looked on screen or how the model would've looked in front of you. I suppose it doesn't really matter in the end.
ReplyDeleteSurely the Bandai toy is Sky 1 blue! ha ha
