Woodsy,
Inspired by your incredible scratch-built Jet Patrol, I thought I would tackle another pseudo-legend from the Supermarionation universe, the Marui UltraMobile, a blatant knockoff of our beloved SPV.
I'll keep you updated, and yes, I plan to assemble the secret spy wrist radio and the hidden mountain base that came with it!

Looking forward to that! I'm intrigued by this kit, I think I've only seen the box art -maybe!
ReplyDeleteUgh, I'm already having trouble with it! I primed the body and didn't like the looks of it, so I used paint remover to get rid of the bad paint, and the paint remover partially dissolved the plastic.... So, now I am trying to fill in and repair the body back to some form of reasonable shape. That's what I get for rushing. If I finish this sucker at all it will be a miracle. Maybe its the curse of Gerry Anderson, since this is a blatant rip-off of his intellectual property??? I've observed this phenomenon before, a kit that, for whatever reason, does not want to come to life. But I am going to try and bring this thing back from the dead, cuz the chances of me going out and buying another one is... ZERO.
ReplyDeleteWhat did you use to remove the paint ? Most paint strippers can not be used on plastic, or do horrible things to your fingers. From the pages of Model Collector magazine I discovered that brown Dettol disinfectant can be used as a paint stripper that is safe to use on plastic. Can not get any at the moment to try it out, but the purple one also works, but generally takes a while. Once I knew what to look for, I found several short instructional videos on You Tube that test various materials that are safe to use on plastic, but seldom bother to say if the paint being removed is enamel or acrylic. I did once have a commercial plastic paint stripper, I think by the US company Aeromaster. I will try out Dettol once I can get my hands on a bottle, and report to Woodsy.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck Rob. Its the ultimate contest, you and the sprue! My latest home-made thingy is wriggling on the hook too!
