These galactic Star Mites, of which these are just 3 examples, have caught my eye over the years. Firstly they were made by Empire of Carolina, which may well be the successor to Tarheel of Tarboro, who released American Project SWORD toys.
Secondly Star Mites are part of that die-cast anime and manga toy world that simply passed me by in the late 70's. I've since become aware of die-cast Popy, Grip, Edai and the Micronauts universe, largely through Wotan's posts on the subject.
There is a review of these Empire toys on the DX website.
I can't really say whether these toys are cheap knockoffs or are in any way good.
Can You?
Star Mites are repackaged versions of Shinsei UFO Power series and are indeed excellent. I have the Jeek Tunneln and Blue Saucer. Like many japanese diecasts, they are highly detailed.
ReplyDeleteWho are Shinsei?
DeleteI have commented about these before.I remember seeing them at K Mart in 1978.I guess they were part if the post Star Wars toy craze here in the U.S.I guess this was as close as I got to seeing these type of toys you so frequently discuss on this site
ReplyDeleteThanks Bri. I hadn't thought of Star Wars. they reminded me more of Micronauts but in 1978 I wasn't looking. Alas, when I was 17 heavy metal was my thing and I only had eyes for electric guitars, Budgie and Rush! Sadly no toys.
