When I think of Eagle I always think of those super detailed cutaway drawings showing the inner workings of planes, trains, ships, rockets, etc. What a combo for kids - educational and entertaining :)
Eagle was before my time Tone but I have grown to love the work of Frank H and pals and see it is as the forerunner of TV21 now. The whole Dan dare phenomenon helped kids love space and space travel and comics I imagine.
Before my time, but great artwork. I do love the 1980s 'New Eagle', Ian Kennedy's art was awesome. Also the late 70's Dan Dare comic strip in the first couple of years of 2000AD where Dan seemed to be based on Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry!
The feel of old Eagles is just like handling an old TV21 Yorkie but like you, it was before my time initially. I have picked up a couple of comics over the years and just love the artwork.
I've got the very first original Eagle, and I worked on the new Eagle in the '80s, lettering Death Wish. I also used to have an original page of Dan Dare art from Eagle's 2nd year, though I later sold it. You can see a picture of it when it was still in my possession on my blog, in a post called 'He Belongs To Glasgow...'
I miss my time in comics in general because I enjoyed it, Woodsy, but it's a vanished age. I had a half-hearted go at trying to letter artwork by computer a few years ago and got absolutely no satisfaction from it so promptly gave up. It would have to be something special to tempt me back, and I'm not sure I have the stamina to do it now. (Or the eyesight.)
I can see how you'd miss it Kid. To many people it seems like a super cool dream job. I don't miss my old 'career'. Hated most of it. An office wallah for decades!
