To keep our minds occupied during isolation we've headed out to the garden.
After a long winter its the first time we've been out there this week. Its ironic that Spring is here, bees are flying, birds are nesting but humanity is in big trouble.
Seems incredible. Out of sync.
One of the things in our garden is an old American lamp.
Seeing it again reminds me of the States.
My first trip was to the wonderful Big Apple in 2001 where I fell in love with New York. It was so so terrible to watch the heartache of 9/11 unfold on the TV later that year.
My second trip was based in New Jersey and Cape Cod in 2005. I went with mates and celebrated leaving my old career and starting a new one, full time Ebaying, which lasted a few really enjoyable years.
I got this metal lamp at a fleamarket at an old drive-in site somewhere. Not sure where now but I also picked up a Marx tin Fort Apache, some GI Joe stuff and this lamp. I just really liked the green translucent glass.
Photographing it underneath with the flash on brings the green out beautifully.
It hangs on the greenhouse and sees all including our paltry debut today.
Its seems really out of order to be isolated and gardening in the sun though.
So many people are fighting the terrible virus.
Its equally heart-rending to see New Yorkers once again facing another terrible disaster, perhaps its worst one and my thoughts and prayers go out to its brave residents this evening as the awful Coronavirus takes hold.
Stay strong New York and all America. We are with you.
I hope the lamp hangs to the starboard side of the greenhouse.
ReplyDeleteIt does Terran, right hand side when you face it. HMS Glasshouse! Strange that I was in NYC twice in the noughties - we could have passed each other in the street without knowing!
DeleteWe could indeed have passed one another without knowing it. NYC was full of British tourists then.
