The other day I posted the set of plastic people and a rocket made by Hover, those erstwhile Project SWORD cloners.

Hover are not well known for originality and here's a similar set by the much better known American company Multiple Toymakers - those Golden Astronaut boys - called Popple People. Were these the source? Or was it Funny Men?
Here we have knights and a circus from 1970 as featured on t'eBay.
I wonder if they released a space version of this? Anyone know?

looking at these, i'm almost sure I had a set of these as a kid. I certainly had Funny Men, albeit the smaller ones. I suspect these are a derivation of Funny Men, as they do seem to be too close for comfort! Check out Paul V's post about the Funny Men creator, the venerable Rene Ach: http://projectswordtoys.blogspot.com/2012/01/discovering-rene-ach_31.html
ReplyDeleteThat was a great post by Paul on renee Ach. I agree, Funny men will be the likely source Bill. Popple People has added dog-legs and other bits and bobs. A development on Funny men maybe.
