Like toys, some sweets define a generation.
For me Uncles Joe's Mint Balls WERE the Sixties and early Seventies.
I can't recall a time back then when there wasn't a tin of the sticky orbs somewhere in my folk's house. At Christmas all three boys got a tin!
They were almost too big to fit in my gob but my two older brothers devoured them!
Uncle Joe's Mint Balls were made in Wigan down the road from where I lived. Very much a Lancastrian brand associated with my home county, they are still being made today at Uncle Joes!
You can even get a T-shirt!
Did you have some as a kid?
Don't think they got down south in the 1960s- never heard of them 'till I was an adult!
ReplyDeleteReally Andy. Maybe they were more of a regional thing than I thought. Oddly enough I only ever see them in those sweet shops that do retro stuff now like sour UFO's and white mice. Uncle Joe's were delicious though but very very hard!
