Part of my problem as an old collector was hoarding.
I used to buy in all sorts of stuff like these cheap vintage paperbacks and annuals.
Left over from my toy fair stall days stuff like has begun to form piles of clutter in the house, loft and shed.
Loads have now gone to charity shops, which is where some will have been bought!
These are bagged up and ready to roll too.
We're drowning in clutter at Moonbase and its got to change!
Turns out all this dusty stuff is seriously bad for my health!
Are you a hoarder too readers?
Thank you, thank you, thank you Woodsy! I was beginning to feel like I was the only one with a mess on his hand. Even after selling a bunch of stuff and giving away nearly all my model railroad mags to the thrift store I'm still awash in junk - oops, I mean highly desirable collectibles. I recently bought four industrial type shelving units for The Cave in an attempt to organize at least a protion of Smaug's Hoard. From there - goes the theory - I can start to make more infprmed decisions as to what to keep and what to get rid of.
ReplyDeleteIts hard getting rid of stuff Ed. I feel for you. It took money and effort to get the stuff in the first place. Still I thoroughly enjoyed searching out old stuff to buy by the bag full years ago. The fun and the thrill was in the rummaging. Clearing some of it out now brings it full circle. Good luck.
DeleteThanks for asking, Woodsy, that's very kind of you and very much appreciated, but I already have some of the very same treasured old annuals which you have there, including Daktari, Starsky & Hutch & Kojak. Seems like we hunted for, and found, the same treasures :D
DeleteI can only imagine how tough it will be for you to get rid of them, but you're doing it for the right reasons, plus they'll be recycled for another lucky treasure hunter to find in a charity shop further down the line - As you say, Full Circle!
You're welcome Tone.
DeleteI look at your clutter and see treasure, Woodsy. I admire your resolve to fight the addiction. Good Luck and stay strong :)
ReplyDeleteIs there anything you especially like Tone before they go to the charity shop?
DeleteA hoarder?...Moi?Perish the thought! Now if you'll excuse me, I can't leave the room until I get these boxes moved...All joking aside, dusting, checking batteries, and seeking solutions are all a part of responsible collecting. It sounds to me like you are on your way to a good place.More power to you!
ReplyDeleteCheers Brian. Many things can go. Some like my clamshell VHS collection, monsters mags and space toys can't. At least my loft isn't mouldy like our shed was. Next big job will be to clear some of the tat in the loft but it can wait. First we need a special unit fitting which circulates dry air around the using using the dry air in the loft. Its called a Drymaster and should permanently get rid of any mould we have in our home.
