Bootlegs, knockoffs, unlicenced products all generally mean the same thing.I personally get a kick out of some of them, they can be downright hilarious sometimes.I have many collections such as Godzilla,Alien and Predator, and other movie monsters to name a few,and all my collections contain some kind of knockoff or another. Some people say bootleggers are stealing from holders of licences and yes, I understand their concern, but I just can't resist having a few bootlegs around for variety and contrast to my collections.
I love the cheap, often tacky, vintage bootlegs which we're advised to avoid, Woodsy. I've a few of these which I shamelessly enjoy and appreciate. Rightly or wrongly, I feel bootlegs were very much part of the backstory of the toys they attempted to mimic... plus they bring back fond memories for me :)
