After three days of yuletide celebrations the Kids have gone home and sadly Crimbo is more or less over for another year.
Still, whilst the tree is still up the festive feeling will linger on for another few days until the New Year.
Just watching Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, scoffing twiglets and looking through my new stuff.
I love the Indy Jones films but I was too old in the Eighties for the Kenner toys when they came out.
In fact I never had any of the toys as a collector and never had any on my toy dealer stall, which was a shame, as I loved the distinctive yellow packaging on other traders' stalls.
The Map Room set has always intrigued me. I wonder what it was like for kids playing with it?
Did they re-enact the scene where Indy drops into the room and inserts the sun stick into the secret hole? How did they recreate the sunlight? A torch?
Did you own any of the Indian Jones toys readers? Where there ever any knockoffs?
Strange as it may seem, Raiders was in and out of theatres before I even knew it existed.I first saw the toys in Spencer Gifts and I didn't recognize the movie, just Harrison Ford's face on the packages.I guess by that time in my life I was more into bicycles, motorcycles, and the new home video game craze and had left toys behind(for a while, anyway;).The Map Room playset seems to have some kind of lenticular effect in the staff that reveals clues, but I guess a flashlight could provide a more dramatic light effect.
ReplyDeleteI never saw any of the Indy flicks at the cinema Brian. I have made up for it since and watch them whenever I can on the box. I was too old for any toys in the Eighties [Dad in 84!] so had to wait to see the Kenner Indy toys and most other vintage toys at toy fairs in the Nineties.
DeleteI never had any of the Indy toys either. To be fair, I was focusing on Japanese diecast toys at that time.
ReplyDeleteHi Will, welcome back. I reckon you were ahead of your time with those Japanese toys!
