I never thought about food when I was a nipper in the Sixties. I think about it all day long now! ha ha
Back then I reckon my favourite meal would have been steak pudding, chips, marrowfat peas and gravy from a chip shop. Lovely!
My favourite home-cooked meal would have been liver and onions with buttery mashed potatoes. Yum!
My fave pudding was butterscotch instant whip. Delishious!
What was your favourite meal as a kid readers?
I take any opportunity to praise mom for being such a good provider for our family.Good food was so common at our table that we never gave it much thought.I think one dish that stood out was called "City Chicken",which was cubes of veal threaded on a skewer, kabob style, coated with bread crumbs and fried crisp. It was a rare treat because veal was fairly expensive.I was a fan of Scalloped or "Au Gratin "potatoes which were sliced and baked with cream and topped with cheese.A vegetable, usually from a can, filled out the plate.A common desert was Jello gelatin in a glass bowl with cut up fruit inside.A little whipped cream on top,and dinner was served!
ReplyDeletethat all sounds so delicious Brian I want to eat City Chicken and Au Gratin myself right now! Sounds like you had a brilliant childhood!
