Being a HUGE fan of the mega-rare toy Submarine Aircraft Carrier by JR21 - below - I'm always on the look out for anything that might resemble it.
Well, we know that the Carrier originated in a Stingray comic strip so how about this vehicle that appears in the MPC Fireball XL5 toy set? Similar? Waddaya think readers? And just what is it?
It's Steve Zodiac's hovercar that appeared in the Fireball XL5 series, and also made the odd cameo in Stingray. So nothing to do with the Submarine AIrcraft Carrier, I'm afraid Woodsy.
ReplyDeleteAh! I was wondering if the two had been created by the same illustrator Scoop?
ReplyDeleteAfraid not, Woodsy. The hovercar would have been designed by Derek Meddings or maybe Reg Hill. The Submarine Aircraft Carrier was drawn by Ron Embleton. As we know, the C21 toy has no association with the Stingray tv series, apart from it's appearance in the first TV21 comic strip, and a cutaway in the first Stingray annual. It came out long after the TV series ended, and seems to be just a minor marketing exercise by Century 21 toys, as opposed to ATV and Century 21 productions..
