I'm just drinking my Sunday morning coffee half-watching the news, which is dominated by the looming and historic breakaway of Scotland from the UK.
Contemplating far less weightier matters, its the sixth year of the blog as of tomorrow, which is hard to believe. Where does the time go? I was in my Forties when it started. I'm not now!
Over the years there have been many many highs, a few lows and also these persistent chin-rubbing grey areas:
1. Monetisation - Blogger do offer this but I have resisted this particular Borg. Personally I can't stand adverts popping up allover the place on blogs and websites. Am I missing a trick?
2. Social Media - I've been approached a few times to put Moonbase on Facebook, but again I've declined, for a two reasons: I work in a School full of facebooking kids and all my blogging energy goes into the blog. What do you think?
3. Website V Blog - should Moonbase be a website rather than a blog? I decided years ago that a blog would be better for me 'cos I get to write something every day. Yay! Bit like a fun newspaper. Websites tend to get finished. And then what? The blog goes on and on and on and ......What are your views?
4. What Next? - I'm always asking myself this? What should we do next on the blog? Change everything? Shift the focus? Stay the same? More than anything, what do you think about this one readers, 'cos without you it's just dead web!
This blog is the best there is at what it does. I certainly don't think it needs to change.
ReplyDeleteAvoid social media like the plague. I cant stand it. Besides, the blog is a form of social medium, just without the duckface selfies and self congratulatory comments.
ReplyDeleteThe blog is fluid and dynamic and also, self correcting. A web base would be static and stale and require constant maintenenance as new discoveries come to light.
Monetisation? Its necessary to pay for everything these days, but the best things in life are always free!
Direction? Space is big. Very big and weve only scratched the surface. If its becoming difficult to blog daily, why not switch to weekly updates?
And I'd echo the above sentiment. Your blog does exactly what it says on the tin. Why change?
ReplyDeleteI was referring to the first comment when I typed my reply, because the second comment hadn't yet appeared. However, I agree with it as well.
DeleteConsidering these issues is always good, but change for change's sake (which all too often happens) is not preferrable at all. I find the Blog format without question the best option. Just please do not go weekly, as Sword Daily belongs to every breakfast table!
ReplyDeleteThe only amendment I would have wished for was the last Swordcast with Bill and Kevin to have gone video as well. Why not all of them?
Good grief Arto, thats running before we can walk! Besides which, I have the perfect face for radio!
ReplyDeleteWhy ask the question? If itt isn't broke don't fix it!
ReplyDeleteWhat he said!
ReplyDeleteYes, like the blog as it is.
ReplyDeleteIt's the only blog I check most days.
Not into social media, so can't comment.
As for adverts, I don't mind them on most sites, I generally don't find them too intrusive - I certainly wouldn't mind if you had some compensation for all your work.
