Kevin D has kindly sent in these great pictures and says:
"Hi, here are photos of my Star Cops original laser
prop. In the series, they never say what the red/ green buttons do. Star Cops went for
realism, so when they fire the gun there is just a brief flash from the muzzle
(the electronics are in this prop) and the victim dies as if shot with a bullet. There is no beam. The prop
does have a set of switches and a 7-segment LED display in the rear, presumably
for that function."
Thats so much like the Merit space signal gun!
ReplyDeleteI seem to remember that it could be set for skin hue resulting in the comment about it being the first "racist" weapon!

Yep, that's what Theroux says. Wow, someone else has seen it!
ReplyDeleteI was at a Bonhams auction where they sold quite a few Star Cops outfits (got the catalogue somewhere). Quite a few years ago now, think I bought my Red Dwarf spacesuit from that one.

I thought that it didn't have a pistol grip when first introduced?

I was at those auctions too. The gun Kenzy shows to Spring doesn't have the pistol grip, but the one that is on Chandri's desk, which Spring later fires, does have.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting posting this! Amazing prop weapon. I just wish I'd had the chance to see the series.
ReplyDeleteWere you at the one where right at the end they auctioned off a Worzel Gummidge statue used in the Harvester Restaurants? Th e"lucky" winner was asked if he'd be interested in another 70!
ReplyDeleteYou know, that does ring a bell! I was buying Blake's 7 stuff at those auctions.
DeleteWilliam,

ReplyDeleteHi there! I set-up a Star Cops Facebook page, and it would be an honour if you would like to share any photos of your amazing costumes and props. I`ve always loved the series, and have been trying to collate as many images and information on the making of the series as possible.
