Toho, the Japanese film makers who brought us the fantastic Godzilla in 1954, launched their grand space epic BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE in 1959. Stuffed with tons of sci-fi machines and spaceships, I particularly like the look of the moonbus-like planetary rovers pictured in the movie poster.
To re-live every scene with the rover Japanese kids could go out and buy a model of it. Luckilly for us, we can see it on You Tube. What do you think of this as a kit toy?
This is a really nifty toy. As a kit it was probably pretty easy to assemble. In any case I like!
ReplyDeleteA battery pack on wheels, with Tetsujin face and in SWORD colours - who could resist! Absolute fave of mine as well!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen this movie, but just watched two different trailers on You Tube. The Japanese trailer contains a brief shot of the Battle in Outer Space Moonbus, while the American trailer has longer and different clips. Did the film makers chop up a Boeing B-29 Superfortress kit for the main body ? The raised portion at the rear is a bit like a submarine conning tower. I assume the middle portion is articulated, like a bendy-bus ? Looks like a great movie, with wonderful model work. Certainly a very nice toy.
