On an old episode of BBC's Antiques Roadshow this week a very nice elderly lady brought in a rather fascinating and unusual object for the average Anderson fan: a framed oil painting of Lady Penelope. The pleasant lady explained that her late husband had worked on the 'explosions' on Anderson's TV shows and the painting had been a gift to him when Century 21 folded. Apparently the painting had appeared in Lady Penelope's 'house' on TV. The BBC expert, obviously excited by Anderson shows, explained that the oil painting was in fact a photograph that had been painted over like an oil.
I can't find any mention of the painting online, but it basically depicted Penelope stood in a long trench coat holding a closed umbrella I think. As for the C21 employee it was awarded too, his live eye had apparently also appeared in one of Anderson's shows!
Sounds like the painting Lady P refers to during her opening scene in THUNDERBIRD 6. Nice to know that the painting/photo still existed a few years ago

Yes, its actually Lady P`s ancestor the Duchess of Creighton Ward.... wonder where it is now? How much did they reckon it was worth?
ReplyDeleteThe "expert" valued it at £200....... yeah, I'd give her that for it too....
