This old SpaceX toys trade journal ad from Games and Toys March 1970, kindly supplied many moons ago by resident ad detective Toad, mentions 37 'fabulous items' and tantalisingly 'more to follow' [wonder what they had in mind?].
OK, the two toys pictured in the ad are 2 of the 37, but what exactly were the other 35 meant here? Wonder if the 37 included the boxed toys and sets? Well Swordies, it's a right royal Bank Holiday here at Moonbase so to satisfy my own curosity I've had a go at compiling a gallery, in no particular order, of all the 37 SpaceX toys and the 8 Tri-ang boxed sets I know of with pictures from a jumble of sources over the past decade. See what you think but many of you are far better versed than me in the SpaceX universe so please do tell me about any additions or omissions!
Tri-ang boxed sets NOT to exact scale!
Sorry for the small size of the pictures. Blogger is a lw unto itself when it comes to me uploading pictures. Clicking on them makes them smaller! When did that happen? They used to go to full page size when clicked. Still I hope you can just about see the Spacex pictures. They deserve to be bigger and clearer. The small paintings are quite beautiful.
ReplyDeleteCool stuff. Was surprised to see the Grumman lunar rover (BTW it's in your pics twice) Did they ever actually make that toy?
ReplyDeleteOh no, in twice! So it is Darth! That's thrown my neat 37 numbering. I've no idea what the 37th toy was now! and yep, the rover was made. It's on the blog somewhere. I'll try to find a link.
DeleteHere you go Darth, the Grummanesque Spacex Moon Buggy courtesy of Paul Vreede 2008. Your'e even mentioned in dispatches! http://projectswordtoys.blogspot.co.uk/2008/10/spacex-moon-buggy.html
ReplyDeleteI must be getting old. I forgot all about that. Cool toy. Thanks.
DeleteIt does say "Soyuz 6 & 7" in that ad, so maybe they were counting them separately? So there are three toys in that ad. Does that bring the count up to 37?
ReplyDeleteI've since thought of the plastic Moonscape but your idea of the two Soyuz toys makes more sense Toad. That gets us back to 37, so well done. I wonder what else Tri-ang had in mind? More NASA designs or God forbid, more miniature SWORD!
