Continuing my search for early JR [21] toys, here's a beauty that appeared on fleabay last month. It's a US Mail Man in a cool little Vespa - style scooter. It has the typical JR treaded plastic front tyre and is similar to their Hitch Hiking Bunny in style and bright colours [pictures: Ebay US].
You can see on the base the familiar JR diamond monogram and although I can't see the number embossed into the plastic I think we can be safe in assuming that it's 307 as written in pen there. This would place it after their Cyclist and the XL9 Rocket [forerunner of Probe Force 3]. I do not know what toy 306 is though at this point.
I'd love to see a box for this toy or at least know it's proper name as a toy. Anyone?
That's rather cute - I like it.
ReplyDelete.... plus now we know what Troy Tempest did before he joined WASP.
... Yes! Troy Tempest! And Vespa is italian for Wasp! hee hee. I suppose all the Anderson characters had jobs before Stingray, Thunderbirds etc! Lady Penelope worked in a Wimpy Bar in Wigan!
ReplyDeleteReally? Didn't know that about Vespa. Nice coincidence!
ReplyDeleteParker didn't have a job. He did jobs ... bank jobs (grins).
I remember going to that Wimpy bar in Wigan. The burger wasn't cooked that well, the meat was pink! ; D
ReplyDelete(laughs) Very good, Mike!
ReplyDeleteStill I bet it was served with Elegance, Charm ... and the undercookedness was the Deadly Danger!
