I love this "0-3" set by Bandai on the Japansuperfantansticmodel site. The classic box art is by japanese SWORDmeister Kamatsuzaki. This cosmic threesome could have given the three SWORD Scouts a run for their money by the looks of it!
Here's a much older trio of sleek spacecraft on this 1947 magazine cover featured on blog reader Astronit's supercool flickr pages.
But really, do any of them compare to the Scouts of Project SWORD? I don't think SpaceX had a threesome in the range did it? Are there any more space toy trio's? Is there another word for trio besides threesome?"£$?
Newsflash:
The white spacecraft in the '03' trio top right top picture reminds me of the rare Telsada Rocket Firing Space Car, which I've never seen in the flesh but blogged a piccy exactly one year ago and shown below. Anyone got this sleek beauty?
and a little of the white Space Boat in the same blog post. It's shown below at the front and the box is at the rear [showing a blue version]. Once again I've never seen this in the flesh. Have you?
Top pic is a kit from the Japanese 70s cartoon (about 1973?) Zero-Tester. The pic is Zero-Tester 1 - an aircraft that splits into 3 separate parts. Bandai produced kits of the 4 Zero-Testers, plus a large kit of their island base. There were also diecast toys. You can find the series on Youtube.

Oh, and sad person that I am (just love Japanese SF tech) ... the Zero-Tester 1 pic on the blog - The white aircraft in the top right is the front of Zero-Tester 1, the red airctaft at the front docks into the rear of the white one, the orange aircraft widens its body and docks onto the rear of the red one, its body becoming the wings on either side of the complete ship. Very inventive and Gerry Andersonesque don't you think?
ReplyDeleteTotally Anderson Yorkie! I love it how they fit together! Seeing as you've got your finger on the Japanese pulse I am trying to find a picture of the rare Nichimo Moon Ranger model kit, forerunner of the SWORD Moon Ranger. I've blogged parts of the box art [from Character Age magazine http://projectswordtoys.blogspot.com/2010/12/nichimo-moon-ranger-lifting-lid.html] but I've never seen the box in full.
ReplyDeleteNichimo Moon Ranger. Hmmmm, only one I've ever seen is the pic on your blog. Will keep an eye out. Amazing what wonderful SF toys and models the Japanese companies have brought out over the years isn't it?
