Below is the NOVA III by Tarheel Industries of Tarboro, better known to us for their Project SWORD US copies.
It's one of three NOVA's that formed the series pictured belows: I, II and III: II being a pink Thunderbird 3 lookalike and I a green jet similar to the Spacex HAWK.
The blog covered the origin of NOVA III earlier in 2009, which you can read here and on the Space 1999 Forum here. In short, its THUNDERBIRD 6 or at least one Brains' designs - the red craft at the bottom of the picture below. I don't think the other two designs were ever made as toys. Or?
You can see footage of Brains trashing his Thunderbird 6/ Nova III in the film Thunderbird 6 on You Tube! (about 7.7 minutes in)
Did Brains create any other craft that never made it into the Tracy hanger?
I love these designs from Thunderbird 6. Much better than the darned Tiger Moth. Anyhow, the models must have been pretty small as the puppets were about 24 inches high?

ReplyDeleteI never considered how small those models must have been. Good point, Yorkie.
ReplyDeleteAs for other craft posited by Brains, well I can't think of any. But I do have a vague recollection of him playing with a radio-controlled model in the swimming pool. Doesn't one of the boys dive in and swamp it? (Alan I bet!). Or is this another chocolate-induced fantasy on my part?
I must admit that the red model brings to mind SHADO's Lunar Module. Of the three TB6 concept models that was my favorite.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, the radio controlled sub model in the Tracy swimming pool is the same model as used by the Hood in the episode 'Desperate Intruder'.

Can't remember the episode that it was in the pool though.
Vivid Imaginations made a tiny toy of it 2002.

Apparently Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson owns the real filming model now. A great Thunderbirds fan. Imagine how the 2004 movie would have differed if he'd made it?
Ah the model is seen in the pool in the episode 'The man from MI5' Thanks Fanderson web site. Get your DVDs out to check.
