Hi Paul,
Done a couple more lunar 'spacex' pics, although one
of the Prospectors' is a Roxy variation, as is the M5 (top pic). I've had the Roxy ones
since the early seventies, and until I recently got back into collecting Spacex
stuff, I'd never realised they where actually different versions of the Spacex
line. I do wonder how many Spacex 'hybrids' Roxy released, and
what alterations they made. No doubt one or two of the blog readers will
know.
Cheers
Mike
Excellent Mike! Woodsy
Mention of Spacex 'hybrids' brought to mind a newspiece in Games and Toys for 1970, titled Spacex For 1970. It appears from this snippet that at least some 'hybrids' resulted in court action:
ReplyDeleteA criterion of their popularity is the fact that many attempts were made to copy the range and legal actions were successfully taken. Quite rightly, Rovex-Tri-ang Ltd, are so proud of their Spacex range that they are determined to protect any possible infringements of the project.
That's fascinating! Just shows that 'knockoffs' caused problems even in the 60's /70's. This article confirms though the timeline for these toys - Spacex obviously came out before the 'hybrids'. Nice one.
