A SINGULARITY

 Whilst Moonbase Junior was over for half term we watched The Black Hole.

Still ecstatic from Close Encounters of the Third Kind the day before, we looked forward to Disney's peek beyond the rim.

Alas, despite decent special effects, ecstatic we were not. Personally I found the acting wooden and the storyline boring. At times I'm pretty sure the music was nabbed from Thunderball and overall a poor effort from Walt. Even the robots were clunky and wooden.

I fell asleep.

I woke up when Junior was shouting for me to turn it off as a dead ashen-faced Doctor was slowly spinning across space. I shouldn't have slept!

A read that Black Hole has become a minor cult classic.

A while ago I posted a mystery City worker I thought was an ARCO figure. 

I managed to find another one online and can now say its actually Meccano and not ARCO.

Result!

IMPERIAL MONSTERS

Hi Woodsy.I recently enjoyed a three day weekend for Memorial Day in U.S.I found this trio of bootleg monsters at a toy show in my neighborhood. They seem to be based on the ubiquitous Imperial Godzilla figure of the 70s,and 2 of them have been altered to look like the Toho characters Rodan and Gigan! I couldn't resist!

A Gerry Anderson 'What If' Box Art Video

Matteline 1967 has done another You Tube video of fantasy box art for various Gerry Anderson kits that Airfix might have done.

Based mainly on Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, UFO, the Doppelganger film, and one-off projects. All in Airfix boxes, except for a Hornby Monorail train set. All good fun. Just a pity none of these were actually produced.

A BROOM WITH A SHOE

 

I picked up this old crone at the boot sale this morning for 50p

Back home I noticed her left foot and sandal was missing, so I whittled her a new one out of Fimo clay.

Next job is to give her a new broom and sort the missing patch on her apron.

When switched on she rocks and cackles with illuminated red eyes! 

Scary!

It'll be great for the Grandkids at Halloween!

REMEMBER CLUTCH CARGO?

Moonbase has mentioned the old Clutch Cargo cartoon series before. 

This was a very limited animation series from America. Made by Cambria Productions, 1959-60.

Their gimmick was a method of superimposing the mouth of a real actor speaking the lines, on to the drawn face of the cartoon character. That made it just about the creepiest thing on TV.

I saw the series in New Zealand, probably in the early 1970s. So, long after it was made.

This short You Tube documentary gives a history of the show, and how the super creepy moving-mouth effect was achieved. Very interesting.
