THE DAY THE SKULL TURNED RED

Hello Woodsy,

One of the nutty things about cable TV are stations that have programs where a single thought is talked about over and over for an hour a show and nothing factual is actually revealed.

They have six or so experts saying the same thing in the form of a question over and over.

One such is about Aliens and Flying Saucers. Every so often the theory about the Nazi 'Bell' surfaces all based about a thought backed by not a shred of proof.

The idea occurred to me now that we're all 'locked down' that what if the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still had a different setting.

What if instead of the 1950's in Washington DC in the US it was England in the 1940's?

What if instead of Klaatu it was the Red Skull?

What if instead of "Klaatu barada nikto" it was

..... "For you the war is over!"

THUNDERBIRDS TOY WEAPONS AND RIFLES FROM AROUND THE WORLD

DRACULA PRINCE OF DARKNESS 54 YEARS AGO

Its Beltane and its still Walpurgis Nacht so here's a great BFI article about two of my fave Hammer horrors, Dracula Prince of Darkness, starring Captain Scarlet and Captain Brown no less and the Plague of the Zombies, Cornish horror at its best starring no less than Servalan.

BELTANE NOVELS: COLLECTABLES?

With today being Beltane I thought I'd browse for old Beltane paperbacks. I collect old novels and haven't got any with the ancient festival in them.

There are many modern novels but three old ones stood out for me, although I don't know any of them or the authors.

The Beltane Fires by Paul Bourquin. This edition is from 1964 in hardback.

The Fires of Beltane by Pamela Wallace. This is the 1978 paperback edition.

The oldest book I could find was Beltane the Smith published in 1915 and written by Jeffery Farnol. This is a hardback edition. Not sure which year. There have been many reprints of this novel and many different covers, which I imagine someone avidly collects given the number.

JET SET

On the home-made Jet Patrol bench today was the rear engine grille.

Two lego 'ladders' formed the ridged back and two plastic washing peg ends created the sloped base.

Here it is silvered up.

There's been much more progress tonight. It's coming together.

Time for a late night beer now. Till tomorrow.
